In June 2019 we received a very specific request from a major marine supplies company, based in the Netherlands, which operates numerous vessels that supply offshore oil and gas platforms worldwide.
They wanted a drum cage for attaching to a crane’s hook to lift drums safely ship-to-shore, shore-to-ship and ship-to-ship. Drums could weigh up to 600kg and must be secured for movement at height.
The company also specified a solid base to the cage, which could easily be loaded with steel and plastic drums. Lifting eyes for shackles and chains were also specified.
Each unit had to be stamped with its own RIGPRO Identification Number and standard product serial code and its 2019 International Maritime Organisation colour code clearly visible.
In addition, the solution must come with standard CE markings, SWL (Safe Working Loads), test certificates, EC declaration forms and St Clare Engineering Ltd certification to ISO9001:2015.
We proposed the Grab-O-Matic DC-1 HD (Heavy Duty) Drum Cage, with its 750kg capacity, solid 8mm base and hinged opening double gates secured by heavy duty drop-nose sword pins and double lifting eyes to secure lifting shackles and chains. An initial order was placed for two units.
Initial delivery was made and over the next eight weeks orders for an additional 18 units were placed to a tight, mid-August delivery deadline.
Working with our materials suppliers and powder coaters, we formulated a manufacturing plan and our inhouse engineers and welders completed the order on time and to the highest standards.
Shipping and delivery was by our preferred freight forwarder, Meachers Global Logistics, and the whole project was delivered on time. The customer was delighted by the quality of the drum cages and St Clare Engineering’s efficiency in build and delivery.
